My thoughts about The Dark and Forbidding Land (and The Young Sorceress) reflect what I was feeling when I was writing them.  I had already poured my heart and soul into a three book series, and her I was, trying to slide two other books between the three.  It was hard.  Therefore in my mind, these two books have always seemed less than the other three.

Having read them again for the first time in a long while, I have an entirely new perspective.  I actually like them better than the others.  There’s a pretty simple reason for this.  I got better as a writer over time.  The Dark and Forbidding Land is a lot of fun.  It really highlights some characters that otherwise don’t get seen so much.
