Senta and the Steel Dragon – Illustrations

Yuah was waiting in the boudoir.  Yuah was Iolanthe’s dressing maid, as well as being Zeah’s daughter.  Two years younger than Iolanthe, Yuah had grown up with her and her brothers.  There was a time that Iolanthe had thought of the younger woman as a sister.  Without a word, she turned and shrugged off her jacket, which Yuah caught and immediately placed on a hanger.  Then she was back to unbutton Iolanthe’s day dress and help her remove it.  This was followed by the large rear bustle made vital by modern fashion and the Prudence Plus fairy bust form corset.  And for the first time all day, Iolanthe was able to take a deep breath.

Yuah walked her friend to the front door and waved goodbye. Then she went back upstairs and had Cissy help her remove her dress, this time completely, and take off her corset. Then she lay down and took an afternoon nap. After she got back up and got dressed, she met Mrs. Colbshallow and Mrs. Calliere in the library for cards. As Yuah dealt, Terrence stepped into the room and looked over her shoulder.

“Master Terrence,” said Mrs. Colbshallow. “Why don’t you sit down? You can be our fourth for canals.”

“No thank you.”

“Whispy it is,” said Yuah, finishing her deal.

Yuah felt more secure. The deinonychus and their smaller cousins the velociraptors were too shy to come close to such a large group of humans. But Terrence took his arm from around her shoulders, instead wrapping her hand around his arm.

A Note about the Illustrations

If some of you who have read The Voyage of the Minotaur have been paying attention, you may note that many of the quotes associated with the illustrations are not from that book.  In fact, some are from book two, three and even five of the series.  Look for book two about August 1st, and book three about a month later.

There was a steam carriage parked at the edge of the square, just next to the gate in the emergency wall. A woman in a bright blue dress with a large flower-covered hat sat at the steering wheel. From his angle, Staff couldn’t tell if it was Iolanthe or Yuah. Mother Linton stood at the side of the vehicle and carried on a conversation with the woman—whoever it was. Staff watched carefully, and though he couldn’t discern the identity of the driver, it became obvious that the discussion between her and the priest was becoming heated. He felt a jerk on his arm as Miss Rocanna stopped.

“I don’t care to be ignored.”

“Well it certainly is a magnificent city,” said Mercy. “I haven’t been here in almost two years… well, you remember.”
“Yes, well you should enjoy it while you can. It may well be more than a few years before you or I have a chance to return.”
“Yes. It is a beautiful sight to see, but I’m looking forward to the adventure. And of course with you absent, I doubt the city will be nearly as beautiful as it is currently.”
