New Years Resolution: Reading

Snow Falling on Cedars: A Novel

I’ve been looking at my book list and realizing that I haven’t been reading enough.  My resolution is to get all the books I’ve started finished.  I started reading Snow Falling on Cedars, Last of the Mohicans, and the Audacity of Hope, and I’ve got a “to read” list of about a dozen others.  I’m going to finish these three by the 3rd and then move on to some great books for 2011.

His Robot Girlfriend – On Library Thing

Library Thing is a site devoted to readers, who post about the books they’ve been reading. Somebody there has been reading His Robot Girlfriend. Thanks guys. Check out the page here.

Munsey’s

Always on the lookout for sources of free eBooks, I never the less somehow overlooked Munsey’s. Here you can find 20,000 unusual and hard to get titles in a variety of formats. This is an especially good place to find the “racy” detective stories of the fifties and sixties, such as the title pictured above. And they add on average, eleven titles a day. You can find Munsey’s Here.

Read an eBook Week

Today marks the beginning of Read an E-Book Week (sic). Enjoy your reading.

Mobile Read Forums

Mobile Read Forums is a great place for information about eBooks and eBook readers of all varieties. It is also a great place to find free eBooks. If the book you want is in their vast library, it is the BEST place to get it. Unlike Manybooks.net or Feedbooks.com, where the books are laid out by computer program, the books at Mobile Read Forums have been lovingly crafted by people.

Books Everyone Should Read – Part 4

Carmilla by J. Sheridan LeFanu

Actually a novella, this vampires story predates Dracula. By far my favorite vampire story, it really plays up the predator-prey aspect of the myth, and of course there is plenty of lesbian subtext. Download it in several eBook formats for free HERE. This is a link to Feedbooks.com, but it can be found in a variety of sites devoted to free books.

Vampire Reading Challenge

Cozymurders.blogspot.com has a vampire reading challenge going. On the one hand, I feel like “more vampires”? On the other hand, I figure I’ll at least read one Twilight sequel. Might as well join in.

1000 Novels Everyone Must Read

The British magazine Guardian has come up with the list of 1000 novels everyone must read. See the entire list and associated articles here.

Royal Harlot

Having finished and thoroughly enjoyed O Pioneers, I have decided to read Royal Harlot for my second Historical Novel Reading Challenge Book (see right sidebar). There have been plenty of great reviews of this book (hereherehere… and of course here), so I’m not going to try and do one even after I’m done reading. I just not that good of a reviewer, though I will let you know if I liked it.
