If you are in Vegas today, stop by the Spring Fling Book Fair and say hello.  I will be here from 11-12 in the morning, selling signed copies of Astrid Maxxim and her Amazing Hoverbike.

Tomorrow I will post some pictures.

You can also wish me a happy anniversary, as today is my wife’s and my 28th wedding anniversary.  Which just proves that my wife has a great deal of patience.

Spring Fling Book Fair

528428_533709916673699_662682154_nTomorrow is the 5th Annual Clark County Libaray Spring Fling Book Fair.  I will be attending, selling autographed copies of Astrid Maxxim and her Amazing Hoverbike  from 11AM to 12PM, and then I’ll just be hanging around.  Hope to see you there.

Johnny 7 OMA

The Johnny 7 OMA was my favorite toy.  I got it for Christmas when I was nine years old.  I can’t imagine it being sold or advertised today.  Just one more example of how things have changed.

Some days when I am really in a bad mood, I just watch this and laugh my ass off.

Sorry, for some reason I can’t get the embed to work.

TV Characters

I saw an ad for Seinfeld reruns the other day that referred to the series as “the greatest show of all time.”  It got me thinking about the importance of characters.  I stopped watching Seinfeld several years before it went off the air.  For me, the characters became uninteresting.  They became so caricatured that I couldn’t identify with them anymore.  No matter how abnormal that a character becomes, the audience should be able to see the world through their eyes.

Now this doesn’t necessarily hold true for all the characters, but there has to be one central character that holds onto some self-awareness.  In the beginning of the show, that was Jerry.  But eventually he became as goofy as the others.  There was nobody to view the other characters through and they stopped being endearing.

Let me give you a current example– my favorite show Big Bang Theory.  Sheldon is so out there that he is a constant comedy foil, but if we didn’t have Leonard to view Sheldon through, he would be far less enjoyable.  Leonard has his own foibles, but he has self-awareness.  He’s a nerd, but he knows he is, and he knows what makes him one.  Sometimes he doesn’t want to be one, but he knows he always will be.  We can laugh at Sheldon, but we need Leonard to appreciate them both.

Veronica Mars Movie

I don’t know if you’ve heard of Kickstarter projects or not, but they are based on a web site that encourages people to donate toward some artistic or creative endeavor.  Recently the creator of the cancelled TV show Veronica Mars proposed a movie and fans ponied up for the money.  If you haven’t seen Veronica Mars, you should.  It was an awesome show, staring then unknowns Kristen Bell and Amanda Seyfried.  I have all three seasons on DVD.  With any luck, the movie will be such a success, they will bring back the show.

Much Ado About Nothing

For those of you who love Shakespeare, like me, or for those of you who just think Joss Whedon should direct every movie made, like me, check out the trailer for the upcoming Much Ado About Nothing.  It looks great and has practically every actor who has ever worked for Whedon.

The Many Adventures of Eaglethorpe Buxton at iBookstore

Eaglethorpe Buxton Mini

The Many Adventures of Eaglethorpe Buxton is available at iBookstore.

Eaglethorpe Buxton, famed adventurer and story-teller, friend to those in need of a friend and guardian to those in need of a guardian. He is a liar and braggart, not to be trusted, especially around pies. Who are we to believe? Buxton himself leads us through The Many Adventures of Eaglethorpe Buxton. This volume includes the previously published Eaglethorpe Buxton and the Elven Princess in which our hero comes to the aid of… a poor orphan? An elven princess? And Eaglethorpe Buxton and the Sorceress. When the sorceress, subject of Eaglethorpe’s play arrives with fire in her eyes, the hapless story-teller must pretend to be his good friend Ellwood. Will he pull off this charade and survive? And what happens when the real Ellwood shows up? One can never tell, especially when Eaglethorpe tells the story. Plus thrill to three all new Eaglethorpe stories. In Eaglethorpe Buxton and the Queen of Aerithraine, our hero is back in his homeland, just in time to stop a mysterious murder, meet the Queen, solve the mystery of his best friend, and face off against a zombie apocalypse! In Eaglethorpe Buxton and the Amazons, our hero and his new friend Percival Thorndyke tramp through the horrible, stinking, insect-infested land of Ennedi in search of treasure. Eaglethorpe must deal with man-hating Amazons, jungle-dwelling goblins, vicious centaurs, the dreaded and feared frog-bear, and a companion who seems determined to get himself killed. In Eaglethorpe Buxton and the Day of the Night of the Werewolf, the famed story-teller is sent to hunt down an unusual werewolf and manages to run into practically everyone he has ever met along the way. The Many Adventures of Eaglethorpe Buxton is a farcical fantasy of heroic proportions, sure to elicit more giggles than gasps.

Catching Up

Yesterday was the first day I met my writing quota in a week, and I’ve written a few pages today too, so I’m feeling really good.

I’m also really glad that March is here.  For some reason, I just feel like February is an evil month.  I’m glad its over.  I’m going to write a lot now that March is here.

Coming up right after March is… April.  I bet you guessed that one already.  In April, the Clark County Library District is holding its Spring Fling Book Fair.  I am set to be one of 100 local authors there.  I’ll have a little table with some info and a stack of Astrid Maxxim books for sale.  More information will be forthcoming.
