Countdown to finishing the First Draft

At this point it’s easier to count down how many pages I have left, at least as I originally plotted the book.  29!  Twenty nine pages left.  Now since every book I’ve ever written has been shorter than originally plotted, we can expect that there might be fewer.  It feels so good to be within sight of the end though.  This has been a much harder story to tell than just about anything I’ve ever written.  I’ll keep you informed.

Update: Blood Trade

It’s been a little over five weeks since I updated you about my current project.  It’s taking me a lot longer than I expected.  I’m just taking longer to write this than some of my other books.  I’m not sure why, exactly.  I’ve just finished chapter 9.  There will probably be 13 chapters in all.  So, since I started this about the beginning of April, you might expect that it will take me about six more weeks to finish the first draft.  If that is the case, I won’t be ready to revise it until after school starts, and that means I’ll be working much slower on it.  So, my best guess for right now for publication is about the 1st of October.  Wow!  That seems like such a long way off, especially considering I wanted to get three more books done this year.  I guess that’s not going to happen.  The following is a repeat of the short blurb I posted about five weeks ago about the book.  Details are subject to change:

Blood Trade is the story of Goth Girl/Former Army Ranger/Private Detective/Tattoo Model/Vampire Hunter Xochitl McKenna, who is thrown into the world of human trafficking committed by both humans and vampires, as she hunts for a twelve year old runaway. Crossing paths, and sometimes getting in her way, are Vegas Cop Vince Rizello, mysterious FBI agent Dominic Zielinski; Novelyne Cavendish, a 200 year old ditsy blonde vampire, and Larry the werewolf.

As promised, a little bit about my upcoming book: Blood Trade.

My next book will be Blood Trade.  It’s coming along nicely, despite my only being able to work on it after school– on weekends I’m too tired.  As soon as summer starts, I’ll finish the first draft.  I’m considering several professional editors for it, now that I’m making enough in royalties to actually afford one.

Blood Trade began as my take on a vampire story, but now that I’m in it, while it is chock-a-bock full of vampires (and werewolves), they are relatively incidental to the real story.  My three main characters, the good, the bad, and the ugly are all human beings.  This will also probably be my first story that carries and “Adult Only” warning.  It’s very, very dark and very, very violent.  Of course nobody seems to give a crap about that.  There’s also sex, violent sex, and rape which (at least here in America) freaks everyone out.  Hence the warning.

I am just finishing chapter five of thirteen chapters that I’ve plotted out.  When I’m actually finished with the draft, I may be down to twelve.  That often happens with me.  That will be about 52,000 words.  Tomorrow, I’ll give you a little bit about the story.

Work in Progress: Blood Trade

This is what I’ve been working on for the past month and I’ll continue on at least until the end of the school year.  Depending on how close I am to finishing, I’ll either finish it immedately over the summer, or set it aside to  work on The Young Sorceress.

Blood Trade is a vampire story set in Las Vegas.  It is not a paranormal romance.  There’s not much romance in it, but there is a lot of paranormal… and sex, and violence.  The main character is a goth girl, former army ranger, private detective.  One of the ideas I’m playing with is that society is starting to break down as the corruption, violence, and evil of vampires and other monster seep into the everyday lives of regular people.  I’ll fill you in a bit more about the story in the coming weeks.  Right now I’m just finishing up chapter 4 (of 20).
