On the Last Chapter

Yay!  I’m on the last chapter of the draft!  I should have about four more pages to write.  This means, as I predicted that the draft will come in a bit shorter than originally plotted.  93 pages instead of 104.  That is primarily due to some huge rewriting at the end.  Everything originally plotted happens, but not in the same way or the same order that I originally thought it up.

I’ve been kicking myself because I haven’t been able to write the four pages a day that I originally planned.  But today?  Five pages!  Woot Woot!  Okay so that means the publication date is going to be somewhere near September 1.  A couple of weeks for draft number 2.  Three weeks for editing.  Maybe a draft 3.  And then I can forget everything I know about vampires.

Author Wesley Allison Page on Facebook

I have had an author page on Facebook for a while now, but haven’t been using it much.  Beginning this week, I will be sending my blog posts to this page instead of my personal page.  If you are a Facebook user, please check out my author page and “Like” it.

Each of my books have their own book page on Facebook, and you can feel free to look for those pages and like them as well.  I will be reposting any blog entries that have to do with that book to that book’s page.

Netflix Price Change

Netflix recently announced they are unlinking their streaming and disk-through-mail plans.  If you never were interested in streaming programs from Netflix, I think this works out as a price cut for you.  But if you wanted to stream video and get disks in the mail, this is a HUGE price increase.  I immediately cancelled my disks by mail and went with streaming only.  I’m going to be using RedBox a lot more.  In the next few days, I’ll tell you how to get the most out of your local Redbox.

Diana Nyad is the Greatest

Diana Nyad is perhaps the greatest living athlete.  I’d put her up against any football or basketball player.  Here she is pictured after her 1979 attempt to swim from Bimini to Florida.  Now at age 61, she’s in training to swim from Cuba to Florida.  I bet she’ll do it too.

Entire World of DC Changing

DC Comics is getting ready to completely restart their entire universe this October, all of the characters face major changes and all the comic series will be restarted at number one.  Even the big three– Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman are changing.

Countdown to finishing the First Draft

At this point it’s easier to count down how many pages I have left, at least as I originally plotted the book.  29!  Twenty nine pages left.  Now since every book I’ve ever written has been shorter than originally plotted, we can expect that there might be fewer.  It feels so good to be within sight of the end though.  This has been a much harder story to tell than just about anything I’ve ever written.  I’ll keep you informed.

Currently Reading: A Private Hope

Who is Kat Emmons?
Residents of Baylor, a northern Michigan town, are not only questioning who Kat Emmons is, but how is the 18-year-old high school senior able to find and print news before it’s published in the local newspaper? Kat’s previous articles lead to a state attorney general’s investigation into Chief Wayne Crawford’s police department, and now the Baylor board of education and its controversial new superintendent, Thomas Pyles, are in Kat’s journalistic crosshairs.
Kat, a private person who two years earlier transferred schools from Oregon to be with her grandmother, Anna Fletcher, lives with a past personal tragedy and the discovery of a buried family secret that consumes her daily thoughts and life. Under the guidance of her teacher Robert Bailey, she’s turned to investigative journalism to escape her demons and suddenly has become the talk of the town.
But the town faces its own troubling times, as well. Schools, in a financial crisis, may close; TB-infected deer have contaminated cattle herds; and the local cement plant now burns hazardous chemicals to stay open. While seemingly unrelated, these events are not.
Unbeknown to Kat, her articles begin a process that will unravel the town’s mysteries and expose a nefarious international plot of corruption and murder that threatens the town’s existence. No one in Baylor is safe; no one is protected. Will she find the truth? Will she also learn for herself the answer to the question on everyone’s mind:

Who is Kat Emmons?

Author R.R. Phillips is a friend of mine and has been very helpful with my own writing and editing, so I ‘ve been looking forward to sitting down and reading this book.  I’ve been unable to find it in ebook form, so I’m reading my autographed paper copy.  More comments to come as I make my way into the story.

What to do about Senta

I’ve been having conflicting emotions and ideas about my series Senta and the Steel Dragon.  It was originally concieved of as a trilogy (or one three part work), but I’ve expanded it into six parts.  The final book has a very clear and definative ending.  It also has a long and complete epilog that details what happens to every character (who survives) the rest of their lives.

I really like the epilog.  That being said, I decided about a year ago, that I wanted to continue the series and I made an outline that covered say ten or fifteen books.  I based this outline partially on the epilog.  If I made the series continue, then the epilog would have to be cut or at least be drastically reduced at the end of book five.

Lately I have had another idea.  Rather than continuing the story, I would write another five book arc that continues in the world of Senta and the Steel Dragon but would feature almost entirely new characters and take place in new settings.  One benefit of this would be a fresh storyline and another would be an induction of new faces, as many of the old ones have been killed off during the Senta and the Steel Dragon books 0-5.  If I go this route, I will still have to trim the epilog, but not as much.

If I do the new series, I will write the books in order this time.  That will make it a whole lot easier.

Work in Progress

With the realization that my writing is not going as quickly as I want, I decided to see exactly how far along on some of my projects I am.  It only makes sence that I work on some of those I already have started, or even near completion.  So here’s how they’re going….

Blood Trade — draft about 70% complete (and damn it, I’m finishing this!)
Women of Power — draft about 65% complete.
Senta and the Steel Dragon 4: The Young  Sorceress — draft about 25% complete.
Senta and the Steel Dragon 5: The Two Dragons — draft 100% complete (but can’t publish until I finish with 4).
The Jungle Girl — draft about 25% complete.
Knights of Amathar — draft about 15% complete.
Cosmos: The Cygnus Gateway — draft about 12% complete.
Nova Dancer — draft 10% complete.
Sons of Armageddon — draft about 10% complete.

Of course I have a few bits and pieces of things I’ve started and played with too, but if I go down the list the way I’ve got it sorted, I should be able to get the most done the quickest.  We’ll see if I can remain disciplined enough to do that.

Update: Blood Trade

It’s been a little over five weeks since I updated you about my current project.  It’s taking me a lot longer than I expected.  I’m just taking longer to write this than some of my other books.  I’m not sure why, exactly.  I’ve just finished chapter 9.  There will probably be 13 chapters in all.  So, since I started this about the beginning of April, you might expect that it will take me about six more weeks to finish the first draft.  If that is the case, I won’t be ready to revise it until after school starts, and that means I’ll be working much slower on it.  So, my best guess for right now for publication is about the 1st of October.  Wow!  That seems like such a long way off, especially considering I wanted to get three more books done this year.  I guess that’s not going to happen.  The following is a repeat of the short blurb I posted about five weeks ago about the book.  Details are subject to change:

Blood Trade is the story of Goth Girl/Former Army Ranger/Private Detective/Tattoo Model/Vampire Hunter Xochitl McKenna, who is thrown into the world of human trafficking committed by both humans and vampires, as she hunts for a twelve year old runaway. Crossing paths, and sometimes getting in her way, are Vegas Cop Vince Rizello, mysterious FBI agent Dominic Zielinski; Novelyne Cavendish, a 200 year old ditsy blonde vampire, and Larry the werewolf.
