Characters: Eaglethorpe Buxton

The idea for Eaglethorpe Buxton came from two very different places.  I wanted a narrator who would try to teach the reader, much like Lemony Snicket does in A Series of Unfortunate Events.  I also remember reading Herman Melville’s Bartleby the Scrivener in college and being fascinated by the idea of a narrator who was not very reliable.  In the case of Eaglethorpe, the narrator became extremely unreliable.

Eaglethorpe also exists in a comic version of my old Dungeons and Dragons world, so he is the type of sage/bard/adventurer that an extremely nerdy D&D player might come up with.  I’m looking forward to writing more Eaglethorpe soon.  At this point, I think I’ll write three more adventures and put them together with the two existing EB adventures in a single volume– The Many Adventures (Alright Five!) of Eaglethorpe Buxton.

Work in Progress: Eaglethorpe Buxton and the Queen of Aerithraine

I wasn’t planning on writing another Eaglethorpe Buxton anytime soon, but I knew that the next one would be Eaglethorpe and the Queen of Aerithtaine.  Then I thought up a really funny line and had to write it, so I ended up writing the first few pages of the story.  Eaglethorpe Buxton stories are really short (though this one might be bit longer) so I could sit down and pound it out pretty quick, but I’m probably thinking I’ll wait till this summer.

The first two EB stories are out there as free downloads, and a new one would be too short to charge even 99 cents for, so I’m thinking I might write two this summer and package them with the first two (maybe rewritten) as the Many Adventures of Eaglethorpe Buxton.  If I do, the fourth story could be any one of a number that I have rattling around in my head, but the most likely would be Eaglethorpe Buxton and the Werewolf.

Ebook Signing Tour Day 9: Aerithraine

Today I am visiting beautiful Aerithraine, home of Queen Elleena, with whom Eaglethorpe Buxton once had the pleasure of spending a fortnight.  Aerithraine traces its origin to my teen years, where it was the home base for my Dungeons and Dragons game.  Though neither of my Eaglethorpe Buxton stories take place in Aerithraine, it does get more than a few mentions from my title character.

Eaglethorpe Buxton and the Elven Princess – 5 Star Review at Manybooks

Review by mrockel: 5 Stars

A brief tale of low magic and high skulduggery, set square in the world of pointy-eared elves and short-arsed goblins. Our self aggrandising hero has a genuine way with words and if you like the genre to be touched with humour this for you.

Eaglethorpe Buxton and the Elven Princess tops 7500 Downloads

Thanks to some recently reported bookstore downloads (147 at Barnes and Noble) Eaglethorpe Buxton and the Elven Princess has topped 7500 downloads.  Interestingly enough Nook users are downloading it more than His Robot Girlfriend.  I wonder if it has something to do with how they appear in the store.
