Blood Trade Updated

Blood TradeI finished re-reading Blood Trade and have fixed about a dozen typoes and quirks that popped up in translating from .doc to the various ebook formats.  If you have purchased this book, you should be able to download the new version free.  The new version had “Revision 01-02-13” on the copyright page.

Blood Trade

Blood TradeI’m just finishing reading Blood Trade.  I really like this book, and not just because I wrote it.  🙂

Seriously, reading this again really makes me want to get to writing the sequel.

I’m really happy whenever somebody buys a copy of the book, and there are a few sold each month.  Since I have yet to sell 200, I like to think there is still quite an audience for a gritty vampire book.

If you haven’t read it yet, read the sample at Smashwords or Amazon or iBookstore and see if you like it.

Reading Blood Trade

Blood TradeA few days ago, I was talking about a Blood Trade soundtrack.  As I was listening to some of the songs mentioned, I realized that I couldn’t remember some of the events in my own story.  I must be getting old.

So, I started reading Blood Trade.  It may sound vain, but I like to read my own stories.  After all, my goal is to write stories that I would like to hear.

Well, I finished chapter two before I found a typo.  So now, I’m reading and doing an editing pass to see if there are any more.  When I’m done, I’ll upload a new version.  I may also take the opportunity to format the book for paperback.

I don’t sell many paperbacks– almost none, really.  But I like to have them to give as presents.  And there is still something cool about seeing your name on a book, even in this day of electronic media.

Blood Trade Soundtrack

I usually don’t listen to music with lyrics when I’m trying to write, though I listen to instrumentals.  I do listen to songs when I’m thinking about plots and ideas though and there are a few songs that remind me of events in stories, and that I think would make great soundtracks to movie versions of my books.  Here is what might be included in a Blood Trade Movie.

You’ve Been Flirting Again – Bjork

9 Crimes – Damien Rice

All I Want from You is Love – Let’s Go Sailing

Dirty Laundrey – Bitter:Sweet

I Want to be Your Dog – Joan Jett

Bad Girls – M.I.A.

Paper Planes – M.I.A.

Werewolves of London – Warren Zevon

Paradise – Coldplay

Mad World – Michael Andrews

Little Sister – Queens of the Stone Age

Previews: Part 7

I forgot to mention in Previews: Part 6, that I have a sequel to Blood Trade in the works.  As you can see, it already has a cover.  I had to secure the rights to the art, so that I would have the same model available for both books.

I have about two chapters of this book done.  Although Blood Trade was difficult to write, these were pretty easy, and I really like them.  Like the first book, this one is very dark and gritty, has vampires, werewolves, and this time zombies.

This will probably go on my official schedule as soon as Eaglethorpe Buxton is published.

Motivations: Blood Trade

I never really wanted to write a vampire book and I’m not a fan of Twilight (I read the first book and thought it was okay, but didn’t love it.)  Urban fantasy really isn’t my cup of tea either.  But my writers’ group used to meet in Borders and they would seat us right between two massive shelves of vampire books.  We would always joke with each other that we should all be writing one.  I always commented that my vampires wouldn’t be lovers.  They would be the bad guys.  I did finally relent and have a slightly good vampire, but she wasn’t really that good.

I started writing Blood Trade and got to the third chapter, when it took a really dark turn.  I was describing not the Vegas that I knew, but one that was in rapid decay as the forces of darkness took over.  I liked it.  So I went back and rewrote the first two chapters and the whole book got much darker.

I had originally planned my heroine Xochitl to be a goth girl, but as with the rest of the story, her background and character got MUCH darker.  I have to say, I really like how the story came out, but it is DARK.  I actually have the first two chapters of a sequel already written, but who knows when I’ll get to it.  After all, I’ve had the first few chapters of the Amathar sequel done for years.  I will say this though, the sequel to Blood Trade (assuming I ever finish it)  will be even darker than the first one.
