Cleaning Out the Old Computer

2402I’m cleaning out my computer of old files while I await my new iMac, and I came across this floorplan of an apartment. I don’t remember where I found it, but I used it as a reference when I was writing Women of Power. This became Stella and Linda’s apartment. Stella’s bedroom is on the right and Linda’s is on the left.

My Favorite 2-Star Review

My books have gotten many reviews– mostly good.  I’m proud to say that I have more 2 star reviews than 1 star, more 3 star than 2 star, more 4 star than 3 star, and more 5 star than 4 star.  Some of those are very well-thought-out and some not so much.

I usually try not to look at reviews, but sometimes I see them and can’t help myself from reading them.  I recently spotted the only review for Women of Power on US Amazon.  It’s a 2-star review, but I really enjoyed reading it.  First of all, though it has some real criticism, it is constructive.  Secondly, it has some positive things to say too.

Here’s a part I like.

“The sad part is that this author writes amazingly well. The whole book is modern
language type writing, making it easy to understand. And the author certainly
knows how to craft an action scene. It’s exciting and you’re never lost or
wondering where one character is, in relation to another, or even to the
environment. The author creates great superhero/villain names for the
characters. I’m a big fan of the Atomic Jack-O-Lantern, the name alone tells you
what an awesome character it is. I cannot sing enough praises for this author’s
ability to make me want to keep going one more chapter. Just one more… just
one more… till I suddenly find myself at the end of the book.”

Women of Power now in Paperback

Women of Power is now available for the first time in digest paperback format.  You can pick up your copy here for just $5.00.

I don’t sell a lot of paper books.  I’ve sold hundreds of ebooks for every paper book.  I understand.  I read ebooks too.  They’re easy to get.  They’re inexpensive.  I love ebooks.  What’s more, I actually make about as much selling a 99 cent ebook, as I do selling a $5 paper book, sometimes even more.  I deliberately price them as close to cost as possible, because I’m more interested at this point in my career in readers than sales.

Why do I have print editions?  Two reasons really.  I like to have some on hand to show off at home, and there is still a chance that someone might discover me as an author by stumbling upon one of my books.

So, my loyal readers.  Keep buying my ebooks.  But, if you know somebody that might like one of my books, please think about purchasing one for them as a gift.  If they like it, you will be giving them the gift and you will be giving me the gift of a new reader.  Thanks.

Motivations: Women of Power

Once again, this is the new cover for Women of Power which graces the updated version.

I got the idea for Women of Power from Feedbooks.com.  Feedbooks was one of the early sites to get great ebook downloads (though I think it has suffered a bit since they went commercial).  One of the great things among their original books back in 2009 (that lately seem to be all erotica) were fan-fiction commics– mini books with comic book covers that were prose inside.  They were mostly based on DC characters like Batman and The Teen Titans.  I decided to try my hand at writing one of those.

There was a whole club and web organization which assigned which books each writer was working on.  That seemed like a whole lot of trouble to me.  Plus I just like to go with my own characters, so that’s what I did.  I made up All American Girl and Skygirl and patterned their descriptions after some cover art I purchased for the “comics.”  I wrote and posted the first two “issues,” but by the time I had finished “issue” (read chapter) three.  I decided that I wanted to make it a full novella.  I set it aside and didn’t get back to it for two years.

You can still find issue 1 of Women of Power at Feedbooks as a free download.  I took issue 2 down because it was significantly different than what became chapter two in the book, and I didn’t want people reading the former and then jumping into chapter 3 of the latter and getting lost.

On a side note, my son and I have just plotted a sequel to Women of Power, with some ideas that I just love.  I really want him to write it with me, because otherwise it may be a while until I get to it.  If that’s the way it turns out, it will be my first co-written work.

Cover Reveal: Women of Power

One of the running topics over at Smashwords is the possibility of improving sales by improving your book cover.  Along with writing this summer, I’m doing new edits of as many books as I can get done, getting paper versions completed for as many books as I can, and generally improving my product line.  So I decided some time ago that I would redo the cover for Women of Power, since it is the only cover I’ve ever actually gotten negative feedback on– something along the lines of “the book was much better thant he cheesy cover seemed to indicate.”

By the time you read this, I should be very close to uploading this cover to Smashwords and Amazon, and of course the other retail outlets will have it soon afterwards.  If you want, feel free to redownload the book.  Regardless of where you purchased it, you should be able to download the update free.  If it has the new cover, you’ve got the new update.
