My Writing: 1972-1975

Some people have asked for it, so here it is– my story as a writer.

I was in 7th grade when I first realized that I could write something.  That year I won the Nevada State Poetry Contest and I began writing and drawing my own science fiction comic strip– I’m a horrible artist.  In the summer, my cousin and I collaborated on creating comics– he’s a much better artist.  I continued to write my comics through nineth grade, when I started Senior High, got a job, and discovered girls.

Tesla’s Stepdaughters – New Cover & New Price

When I first published Tesla’s Stepdaughters with a cover very much like this one, I included the description on the front– “A bitchin’ cool sci-fi rock & roll detective story.”  My wife immediately objected to this, in particular the word “bitchin’,” saying it was off-putting.

Now the book is selling just about as well as my other books, but the sales patterns are very different.  It’s not selling as well in certain areas as the other books are.  So, I’m thinking maybe she was right, at least for those places.  Anyway, the cover is much the same, though without the descriptive text.

The ebook price is also now lower–  99 cents.  It’s already dropped in price at Smashwords and Amazon and should follow soon at all fine ebook stores.

The Drache Girl – 5 Star Review

5.0 out of 5 stars Cracking Adventure!, 20 Mar 2011

By S. Horrigan (London) – See all my reviews
(TOP 1000 REVIEWER) (VINE VOICE) (REAL NAME)

This review is from: The Drache Girl (Senta and the Steel Dragon) (Kindle Edition)
This series is set in an alternate version of a Victorian world that is similar to but not quite the same as Great Britain of the late 1800s only with magic, sorceresses, wizards, dragons, dinosaurs and lizard men!

In this, the third book of the series, the colony at Port Dechantagne has now been established for almost four years. The first settlers who came to seek their fortune on a new continent are now reaping the rewards of their labours. The colony is growing wealthy and starting to attract the attention of powerful people.

Senta now aged twelve years is growing up quickly and her natural skills as a sorceress are becoming more powerful with every day that passes. Senta and the dragon Bessemer who is now the size of a small horse, are loved by many, feared by some, but ignored by no one!

Political intrigue, treason, a native uprising, the threat of war both in the new world and at home, first love, and a great “magic duel” all feature in another absolutely cracking instalment of this multi-genre adventure series.

Once again the presentation of this book on the Kindle is first class.

Overall: 5 stars – I really didn’t want to put this book down. Senta and the Steel Dragon is fast becoming one of my favourite series for a long time! I hope that we don’t have to wait too long for part 4!

Thanks so much!

His Robot Wife – 5 Star Review

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. This is something I never would have read had it not been for purchasing the Kindle & I enjoyed it so much I went looking for other books by the same author. A good read which is well worth taking a chance on.

Thanks, Ms. Pearce!

His Robot Girlfriend Tops 150,000 Downloads

There has been a huge increase in downloads of His Robot Girlfriend in the past month– although it has been downloaded at more than 5,000 times per month for some time.  Although available at Manybooks, Smashwords, and Feedbooks, it seems that readers are discovering it now at Kobo, Diesel, iBooks, and B&N.

I’ll be honest.  I was happy enough with it when it was first done, but now I think I’ve improved quite a bit in my story telling and writing and I’m a little embarrassed that it’s not better than it is.  Oh well, many people seem to like it– there are more 5 star reviews than 1 star reviews.

Record Book Sales

I’m pretty excited.  My books are selling well.  Prior to 2011, the most books that I had sold in a month was 65.  Since most Indy authors sell fewer than 100 books, I wasn’t too discouraged.  I write what I would want to read, and I think that most of my books don’t have much of a “hook.”  When people start reading them though, I seem to get pretty good feedback.  So I knew that at some point I would hook a few readers.  I also suspected that His Robot Wife would be the book to hook a few.

His Robot Wife came out in February, and I sold over 100 books that month.  Then in March, I sold almost 500!  Here (as I write this), April has just started and I’ve already sold over 500 this month!  As I mentioned before, most of them are in the UK, but also quite a few in Australia and Canada.  Thanks to all my readers out there.  I appreciate you.

Ebook Signing Tour Day 14: Pellucidar

[DOLLHOUSE MINIATURE] Tanar of Pellucidar, Edgar Rice Burroughs, 1929

Pellucidar: the land at the Earth’s Core– what a great place to finish out my two week Ebook Signing Tour.  I’ve been to twelve imaginary places and I feel as if I never left home.  Pellucidar is the location for seven great books by Edgar Rice Burroughs.  You can get them all, including Pellucidar right here.  Download them in any ebook format.

Ebook Signing Tour Day 13: Arkham Mass.

My next to last day on the road brings me to Arkham Mass.  Home to Miskatonic University and a plethora of unnatural horrors from the mind of H.P. Lovecraft, Arkham was the inspiration for Arkham Assylum of Batman fame and is a great place to go to lose yourself (or your mind).

Ebook Signing Tour Day 12: Gondor

If you’re going to visit Middle Earth, then you need to visit Gondor.  I’m staying in a nice little apartment next to the ratcatcher.  I first read Lord of the Rings when I was in High School.  It was the book that everybody was reading.  It was kind of the Harry Potter of its day, I suppose.  I still love it.

Ebook Signing Tour Day 11: The United Kingdom of Greater Brechalon

The United Kingdom of Greater Brechalon and its capital city of Brech are the locations for my novel Brechalon, as well as the starting location of The Voyage of the Minotaur.  It is a fantasy analog for Victorian England.  Ruled by King Tybalt III, it sits on a series of islands some twenty miles across the channel from its traditional enemies Mirsanna and Freedonia.
